How to Keep Self-Care Going When Life Gets Busy Again

How to Keep Self-Care Going When Life Gets Busy AgainAging Gracefully Blog Header

Self-care on busy days does not look like a full spa afternoon or an hour of yoga or whatever the internet tells you it should be. It looks like a cup of tea before the day starts. It looks like ten minutes in the garden when you get home. It looks like a bath with something that smells lovely and makes you feel good.

Those small things are not second best. They are real self-care. And they are absolutely enough.

There is something a little bittersweet about going back to work after a lovely stretch of time at home. For me this week, that is exactly where I am. I have had the most wonderful time pottering around the garden, doing things at my own pace, and genuinely resting in a way I did not realise I needed. And now real life is back the alarm, the routine, the busy days.

The thing I have learned, though, is that self-care does not have to disappear the moment life gets busy again. It just has to look a little different. Smaller. Simpler. But it still counts, and it still matters.

Here is what actually works for me.

Start the day with something just for you

Before anything else happens in my morning, I make myself a cup of tea, and I just sit with it quietly. No scrolling, no rushing, just a few minutes of peace before the day starts.

It sounds so small, but it genuinely changes how the rest of the morning feels. When I skip it, I can feel the difference. It is like starting the day on the back foot before I have even got going.

If you can find even five minutes that belongs just to you before the day takes over, hold onto it. That little anchor matters more than you think.

Take a few minutes for your skin in the morning

After my cuppa, I like to take a few minutes to go through a proper skincare routine before the day starts. Cleanser, moisturiser, the works. It is not about spending ages in front of the mirror; it is about doing something that feels intentional and just for you before the rest of the world needs your attention.

There is something about looking after your skin in the morning that sets a really lovely tone for the day. It is one of those things that sounds simple but makes such a difference to how you feel.

Give yourself something to look forward to at the end of the day

When I know there is something nice waiting at the end of the day, it makes the whole thing feel more manageable.

For me right now, that is coming home, getting a cold drink, and spending a bit of quiet time in the garden. Just sitting out there, looking at everything growing, letting the day settle.

Then, once I have wound down a bit, a hot bath is my favourite way to properly switch off. I have been using my Lady Billion Whipped Soap from Scent and Colour Boutique, and honestly, it makes the whole thing feel like a bit of a treat rather than just washing. The scent is gorgeous, and it leaves my skin feeling really soft. Something that nice at the end of a busy day feels like a proper reward for getting through it.

A little hair care moment that does not take ages

One thing I have started doing when I have a spare few minutes is using my Hair Hot and Cold Rosemary Oil Treatment, also from Scent and Colour Boutique. Rosemary oil is brilliant for your hair and scalp, and it is the kind of thing that feels really nourishing without taking up loads of time.

It is one of those small acts of care that just reminds you that you are worth looking after. Even on the busy days.
