August always feels like a transition month for me. The summer heat is still here, but I can feel autumn approaching. It's the perfect time to reset my self-care routines.
Self-care doesn't always look like bubble baths and spa days for me this August; it's been muddy boots, heavy lifting, and rebuilding my garden pond. Hard work? Yes, but also my kind of self-care.
If you'd asked me a while ago what self-care looked like, I probably would have laughed and said, "Not me, I don't have time for that." Now I've learned it can be the small things that help me reset.
One of my absolute favourite forms of self-care this August has been getting my hands dirty in the garden. There's something so peaceful about rebuilding my pond, just me and nature, the sound of water, and birds curious about what I'm up to.
After busy days at work, those quiet moments outside have become my sanctuary. The simple act of moving stones, planting around the edges, and watching the water settle brings me a kind of peace that's hard to find elsewhere. If you've been following along on Facebook, you've probably seen my pond progress pictures!
It's not about creating perfection; it's about the process and giving myself that time to just breathe. On particularly hot days (and we've had plenty!), I've been keeping my Replenish and Energise Face Mist close by.
A quick spritz while gardening makes me feel instantly refreshed when the sun's beating down. It's these little things that make such a difference to how I feel.
Now, some people might look at that and think, "That's hard work, not self-care." And yes, it is hard work, but it's also something I enjoy. It gets me moving, it clears my head, and it feels rewarding to see it coming together. In a funny way, it's my exercise and my relaxation all rolled into one.
Do you have something like that? Something that feels like work to others, but actually helps you switch off and feel good?
My Daily August Reset Routine, alongside my garden project, it's been all about:
Sitting in the garden with a cuppa ☕
A quick spritz of my cooling Face mist when the afternoons feel heavy
Evening walks with Bow when the day cools down 🐶
They're simple, but they're the everyday habits that keep me feeling like me. What about you? Do you have a little routine that helps you feel calmer in the middle of a busy day?
I've discovered that self-care doesn't need to be complicated or expensive. Finding something you love, whether it's a hobby like my gardening, reading a book, or just taking five minutes with a cup of tea, creates those little pockets of joy in everyday life.
For me, rebuilding my pond wasn't originally about "self-care"; it was just something I wanted to do.
But I've realised these activities where we lose track of time are often the best form of care for our busy minds.
What hobby or simple pleasure gives you that sense of peace?
If you're not sure, August is a perfect month to explore and find something that makes you smile. It doesn't need to be Instagram-worthy or impressive to others; it just needs to feel good to you.
