5 Simple Spring Self-Care Ideas That Actually Fit Real Life

Aging Gracefully Blog Header

There is something about spring that makes you want to shake things up a bit. The days are getting longer, there is a bit more warmth in the air, and for me at least, it always feels like a little nudge to pay more attention to myself.

Not in a big life overhaul kind of way. Just in those small, simple ways that actually make a difference to how you feel from one day to the next.

If you have been putting yourself last for a while and you are not sure where to start, here are five things that have genuinely been helping me this spring.

1. Get outside, even just for a little while

I have been spending more time in the garden lately and it has done me the world of good. Even if it is just ten minutes deadheading, checking on things, or in my case keeping a very close eye on my tadpoles (still no legs by the way! 🐸), just being outside changes how you feel.

You do not need a beautiful garden or a lot of outdoor space. A short walk, sitting on a bench in the sunshine, or just stepping outside with a cuppa counts. Fresh air and daylight do something to your mood that nothing else really replaces.

Simple, free, and one of the best things you can do for yourself.

2. Refresh your skincare for the season

As the weather changes, your skin changes with it. What was working in winter might feel a bit heavy or wrong now that spring is here.

I have just started using the Oriflame Multi-Active Anti-Ageing Day Cream Light SPF 30, and I was honestly surprised by how light it feels. It just blends straight in with no heavy or greasy feeling at all. My skin soaked it up and just felt like it had got exactly what it needed.

The SPF is a big one for me because even on a cloudy spring day, protection matters. And because you only need a little bit each time it lasts really well too.

If your skin has been feeling a bit dull or tired coming out of winter, it might just need a little refresh for the new season.

3. Keep something on you for dry skin

Such a small thing but it makes such a difference. I always have a pot of the Oriflame Tender Care Protecting Balm in Raspberry in my bag and it earns its place every single day.

It is thick and rich but it sinks straight in with no greasy feeling at all. Just soft, comfortable skin wherever you need it. I use it on dry patches and my lips and it does the job every time. The raspberry scent is just a little bonus that makes you smile every time you open it.

Made with beeswax and vitamin E, and 50p from every purchase goes to Children on the Edge to help fund a child's education for a day. I love that.

Having something small on you that makes you feel looked after is a form of self-care in itself.

4. Try something small and new

I have got into the habit lately of trying a new recipe at the weekend, just something simple, just to do something a little different and switch off for a bit. This week, it was garlic cheddar biscuits, and they were so easy and so tasty.

It does not have to be cooking. It could be a new walk, a new product, reading something different, or just pottering around doing something you enjoy with no agenda.

There is something really good for your mood about doing something just for the joy of it, with no pressure and no particular outcome. We do not do enough of that as women.

5. Give yourself permission to go slowly

This might be the most important one. Spring does not mean you have to suddenly have everything together or overhaul your whole life at once.

Real self-care is not a perfect routine or an expensive product. It is the small things you do consistently that make you feel more like yourself. The ten minutes outside. The little pot of balm in your bag. The new recipe on a Saturday afternoon.

You do not need to do everything. You just need to do something, regularly, that is just for you.

Start small and build from there. You deserve that. 💚
